"Children can only aspire to what they know exists ...!"
As part of drb’s Corporate Social Responsibility commitments and support to the wider Midlands community, The drb Group is very proud to be managing the Central CU Trust, (Registered Charity no. 1160033) working with the Coventry, Warwickshire, Solihull, Worcestershire and Birmingham Children’s University Centres. The Central CU Trust will increase the capacity of Children’s University Centres across the area. This will be achieved by the sharing of expertise, good practice, resources and strengthening of partnerships across the regions, and drb’s support is on a ‘not for profit’ basis.
drb was instrumental in setting up the Central CU Trust to support the National Children’s University’s mission and to ensure the sustainability and future of regional CU Centres.
Children’s University promotes social mobility by providing high quality out of school hour’s activities to children aged 5-14 years. At the heart of its work is the ambition to raise aspirations, boost achievement and foster a love of learning so that all young people can make the most of their abilities and interests.
Our aim, in particular is to reach children and young people facing socio-economic disadvantage by promoting activities in areas of deprivation. Students choose to engage in our activities which look and feel different from school learning experiences. We award students for their completed learning hours with Graduation Ceremonies held in university settings.
Over the last five years National Children’s University Graduates have contributed to over 2.5 million hours of voluntary learning, and many children have become proud and confident learners. The National Children’s University is managed through a network of over 90 regional Children’s University Centres in England, including the Service Children’s Education Schools CU.
The Central CU Trust is the first of its kind in the UK and it is envisaged that this will become the model for other Children’s University Centres as it seeks the best models and practices to ensure sustainability.
